This was an interesting story, because Kim Slater is a very good writer (A Seven Letter Word is amazing), and this was also good. But as with Spylark, the book was slow to get started. Though an interesting mystery is there, and it's an interesting take on the Boy who Cried Wolf, I found that the story didn't really get interesting until Ed's Dad steps into the picture. That is where the plot becomes so much more interesting, and you become a bit more invested in the characters. Overall, I found this book to be pretty decent, but not on par with the three others I prefer: Flood World, Slick and Jemima Small (No particular order).
Grace - Outwood Academy Kirkby - 2021
It is a really good book and I enjoyed it. I told my mum what happened and she was really excited for me to finish the book and tell her what happened next. I enjoy great books and I liked the whole concept of the storyline.

An amazing book that I enjoyed so much! It was a modern take on a classic mystery story.

The Boy Who Lied was a thought-provoking book about Ed, a liar, who’s brother Sam had been mysteriously kidnapped. Set in Nottingham, Ed slowly uncovers the truth with the help of Fallon, his new friend. I personally loved the idea of this book- Kim Slater has done an excellent job of reviewing Ed’s feelings towards each step of the story. My only downside would be that the book started off quite slowly; apart from that, I enjoyed reading this book a lot and look forward to reading more of these types of books.

This is a gripping story of a boy whose brother is kidnapped. It shows the main character's (Ed) true colours as a boy who would do anything for his family, which I liked as it was his dedication to finding his brother which captivated me. With his dad in prison and his mother suffering mental health issues, Ed and his friend gradually uncover the truth of his brother's disappearance and face an unsuspecting plot twist at the very end of this adventurous tale, which was my favourite part as it was unpredictable and ended the book in a thrilling way.
Karen - Nottingham Girls High School - 2021
This was an amazing book! The plot was fantastic and it was spread out perfectly! The ending was splendid as it was led up to throughout the books from beginning until the end ; you can see this when the author left little clues here and there explaining the end behavior yet giving it a massive plot twist! Beautifully written book!
