A 13-year-old boy starts to enjoy life again when he makes a new friend at school, a year after his twin brother died in a road accident. Leon's twin, Lenny, had the best imagination in the world. He could do a back flip from a standing start and tell rude jokes nonstop for hours. But a year ago Lenny died, and Leon's family hasn't been the same since. When a new boy, Arnold, starts at Leon's school, he has no idea what to think: Arnold doesn't understand jokes, sarcasm is lost on him and he can be completely blunt. Leon has never met anyone like Arnold before, and an unlikely friendship blossoms. Before long things start to get seriously bonkers, and the two boys are breaking windows, accidentally holding up a bank and getting arrested after a disagreement with a baguette. But amidst all this madness, can Awkward Arnold actually help Leon to sort his life out?

Reviews

Rhys - Outwood Academy Kirkby - 2020

A good book, the plot wasnt an already existing plot, the book isnt too long, there was a bit too much filler. Altogether a great book.

Grace - Nottingham Girls High School - 2020

I think this book was really gripping and fast paced, but in my opinion, the storyline was very unusual. Apart from that, I couldn't stop reading it and it was a fantastic book!

Isobel - Nottingham Girls High School - 2020

Not quite my cup of tea but I liked the plot.

Toby - Arnold Hill Academy - 2020

Very good, love the connection that Leon and Arnold build . Amazing story line, great job Rob Stevens ! Especially love the awesome moment when Leon saves the day and pushes Arnold out of the way of the lorry . Once again massive well done to Rob Stevens. Overall I give it a 5 out of 5.

Maya - Nottingham Girls High School - 2020

I found the opening confusing but I picked it up. I prefer action books and I didn’t find it funny despite its description as a comedy of events. However, I did enjoy the ending as it was extremely emotional to talk about something you feared. I liked Arnold because of his don’t care attitude and unusual way of understanding things.

Beth - Nottingham Girls High School - 2020

This book was good, it was quite emotional but still had a nice plot.

Thomas - Arnold Hill Academy - 2020

Lucky break was a really good book because there was so many funny jokes .Also the characters were great all with different personalities which is always good in a book it was a great story line.

Tyler - Outwood Academy Kirkby - 2020

If I hadn't have read Dog, I would have voted for this book. I wouldn't say its the best, however it certainly isn't the worst. Its comical, emotional and amazing all in one. However It was easy for me to work out what would have happened by the end, The in between parts were great, however it was still obvious how it would end. Overall its a great book.

Rhianna - National Church of England Academy - 2020

I only started the book and didn't like it so there is a 3 :)

Rhoda - National Church of England Academy - 2020

Charlotte - National Church of England Academy - 2020

I have rated this book 5 stars. I really enjoyed this book because it was quite relatable and I found it exciting and it wasn't that sad. My favourite part was when they got the tickets to the rugby match and relived the moment of the previous year.
