ISBN: 9781788003452

An ignored middle child is torn between capturing an enemy and protecting her friend. Eleven-year-old Maggie lives in Fennis Wick, enclosed and protected from the outside world by a boundary, beyond which the Quiet War rages and the dirty, dangerous wanderers roam. Her brother Jed is an eldest, revered and special. A hero. Her younger brother is Trig - everyone loves Trig. But Maggie's just a middler; invisible and left behind. Then, one hot September day, she meets Una, a hungry wanderer girl in need of help, and everything Maggie has ever known gets turned on its head.

Reviews

Holly - Bulwell Academy - 2020

A book about a curious girl that wants to be noticed . It isn't a book you can quickly read but one you should enjoy while you read about the young girl's life.

Erin - White Hills Park Federation - 2020

When I read The Middler I was just sucked in straight away. This was definitely one of my favourite books to read. It had adventure and a mix of emotions. This book is about a heroic character who was labelled in her home village. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a really good read. I liked Jed because he was really brave and helpful.

Evie - Outwood Academy Kirkby - 2020

I thought it was an excellent book with a fantastic twist that I did not expect at all. I also loved how they made Maggie want to be like the eldest's and be a hero that way, but eventually she became a hero her own way.

Grace - Rushcliffe Spencer Academy - 2020
