Reggie House has the Power

Reggie House has the Power

by Helen Rutter

ISBN: 9781839942730

Reggie Houser has ADHD and struggles to make friends at school, plus his mum and teachers seem constantly weary about his erratic, high-energy ways. But when he sees a hypnotist perform on stage at the holiday park he visits, Reggie becomes obsessed with learning the skills behind mind control - and he discovers he has an incredible talent for it! First of all he hypnotises the dog to think he's a frog, then makes his headmaster cluck like a chicken in assembly in front of the whole school - but then a group of mean kids supposedly take him under their wing and make him use his hypnosis talents for bad: stealing a chocolate bar from a shop and escalating to a bigger theft. Reggie must decide to use his skills for good only and come to trust his own brain to make decisions.

Reviews

Jenny - Nottingham Girls High School - 2025

It was a really serious topic, yet it was funny and enjoyable to read. It really opened my eyes to how people with ADHD might feel. I also really enjoyed the 'do try this at home' and I tried them on my friends - they worked very well. Thank you for writing this book. I am now reading more of your books.

Diana - Nottingham Girls High School - 2025

I liked this book because I enjoyed learning more about Reggie's brain. I also liked the idea of using hypnosis to make friends, although it didn't work out so well for Reggie, and I found it sweet that Reggie's real friend was there all along. The only thing I didn't like as much were the illustrations, which didn't really match the theme of the book, but altogether it was very fun to read.

Sarah - Nottingham Girls High School - 2025

I really like this book and think it is important to know about ADHD and similar things.

Nisa - Nottingham Girls High School - 2025

I really liked this book, especially the magic tricks before each chapter. It was a funny book with funny characters. I liked how he was inspired by hypnotist Michael Gareth and then decided that he would try and be just like him with his tricks. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and all of its features.

Charlotte - Nottingham Girls High School - 2025

A good book that others would enjoy but not one of my favourite books. Good characters and I enjoyed the ending. I like the way in which it made everything slot into place.

Tabi - Nottingham Girls High School - 2025

This book is extremely inspirational and shows that everyone should follow their dreams. When Reggie saw a hypnotist on stage he was inspired and he put his problems aside and made sure he could achieve his dream.

Sharika - Nottingham Girls High School - 2025

It was a good book and the twist at the end was really shocking. I would recommend this book to other people.

Minnie - Nottingham Girls High School - 2025

This book was very funny and at the same time inspirational. It had great parts at the end of every chapter that really worked and made the book interactive with the reader. This book was amazing, I loved it!

Emma - Nottingham Girls High School - 2025

I liked the book because it shows that all people are different but unique in a way. I also liked that Reggie is joining Secondary school because it is not so easy to find friends and you have to find the right friend and that is not always easy. I liked that even though you have ADHD doesn't mean you get treated differently. I also liked the twist at the end.

Erin - Nottingham Girls High School - 2025

I really enjoyed this book. It was funny and creative. I would definitely recommend it. Loved it!

Niamh - Nottingham Girls High School - 2025

I really likedhow the book was set. Also the way it showed how a boy went from being alone and unknown to a boy who is happy and people know who he truly is.

Abubakar - White Hills Park Federation - 2025

Reggie Houser Has The Power is a brilliantly funny book, that touches on the very important subject of kindness. Reggie feels that he needs to change himself, just to be accepted.

Imogen - White Hills Park Federation - 2025

I think Reggie houser has the power was a great book because it was very imaginative and had lots of interesting ideas . I loved how he had ADHD because it shows people with a neurodiversity disorder can still achieve great things. Reggie houser has the power is a very funny book and I really enjoyed reading it.

Zoey - Nottingham Girls High School - 2025

Amusing. Interactive. Unexpected plot twist with Lily at the end.

Anvitha - Nottingham Girls High School - 2025

I quite enjoyed this book as it was fun and interesting. I don't really know many people with ADHD so it was quite interesting since the book was from Reggie's perspective. I also quite liked the interactive bits and pranks in between the chapters. Overall I enjoyed this book a lot.

Annie - Nottingham Girls High School - 2025

A funny, sad, and relatable book. Some parts were silly and some very serious, but it always stayed quite light and fun and the ending was very sweet.

Emily - Nottingham Girls High School - 2025

This book was really good because it showed how much some people will do just to feel like they belong and have friends. It also shows that people who think differently find it harder and that its not always their fault about how they act.

Hawwa - Nottingham Girls High School - 2025

It was good, it had a nice story plot. I liked the ending and how everything came together. It may not be my favourite but I enjoyed it.

Elodie - White Hills Park Federation - 2025

This book is about a boy called Reggie Houser who struggles to make friends, because of his ADHD and his fizzes and fidgets. When on holiday, he watches a hypnosis performance on stage and becomes determined to learn some tricks himself… however his Mum is not so sure. I thought this was a great book with good humour. Its activities will capture you from within the pages and will leave you having a lot of fun. It is definitely a funny book and I highly recommend.
